Five dollars is all it can take to make your canvas plimsolls stand out amongst the sea of other white-laced shoes. Leather laces are typically used in boots or nice dress shoes. But you can also string up some leather laces into your canvas shoes to make them look different. After all, the little details like this can make or break an outfit.

These particular laces are 72″ Kiwi laces in light brown. Sure, you can buy shorter laces for a dollar or two less, but you’ll still have to cut them to length. With the 72 inch laces, you can cut one lace in half and use the two pieces for a pair of shoes. The other lace can be a backup or go into another pair of shoes.

Now, this whole idea is something that was brought up on Reddit’s male fashion advice subreddit by user jdbee. I like this change of laces for certain shoe colors. If you want to read the original thread on /r/MFA, here it is.

Some guys complain that leather is hard to keep laced. All you have to do is make sure you’re tying a proper knot. If they still remain troublesome, take them back out of the shoes and try soaking them in water overnight. Soaking them can help make them more flexible.

For $5 though, it can certainly make a nice yet subtle change.

  1. So, straight from r/malefashionadvice to your blog, huh?

  2. Not only did he take pictures, but he also referenced the original. Why the hate?
